Lee Roy Selmon's story combines football scholarships for his family as well as service to the community. First of all the Selmons were raised with Lucious and Jessie Selmon on the farm close to Eufala within Oklahoma as the eldest of their nine children. Another reason for his football career was that he is the youngest of three brothers who played for Oklahoma. Three of them made All-America. The year was 1973. Lucious Jr. Dewey and Lee Roy were starters. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's best lineman. In three years, Oklahoma was 32-1-1 with Roy being the starting player. The team also took home two national championships. As an National Football Foundation Scholarship-Athlete, Selmon was awarded the opportunity to receive a scholarship in his third time in the year 1975. Selmon earned a degree in education. Lee Roy's fourth volunteer service included ten hours per week as a volunteer in the college. After graduation, he landed in Tampa played nine years with the Buccaneers was all-pro three times and started a business career. The first position he held was a Account Relations Officer with First Florida Bank, Tampa. He has worked on the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. No wonder that in 1982 the Junior Chamber of Commerce named him one of the nation's most outstanding young males. Lee Roy weighed 256 lbs and stood at a height of 7-foot-2. In his time at college, he was the captain of the team of 1975. In 1993, he was a part of his current position at University of South Florida as associate director of athletics. He was named to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988 the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994 the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation presented the Distinguished American Award Mr. Lucious Sr. The award was presented by Henry Bellmon govenor of Oklahoma.
