Lynda Carter
Carter was born in Phoenix, Arizona, the daughter of Juanita (nee Cordova) and Colby Carter.Her father is of English and Scots-Irish descent, and her mother of a family that hails from Mexico and is of Mexican, Spanish, and French descent. She is the sibling of Vincent, a brother, and Pamela and Pamela, who are sisters. Carter aged five was the first public TV star to make her debut at Lew King's Talent Show. During high school, Carter joined a group known as Just Us. The group consisted of a marimba, conga drum as well as an acoustic guitarist as well as a stand-up bass that was played by another girl in the group. Lynda began singing at a local pizzeria at the age of 15. At age 16, she joined her cousins in another band called The Relatives. Gary Burghoff, actor, was the drummer for The Relatives. The band first performed in the Sahara Hotel and Casino lounge in Las Vegas for three months; because Carter was not 21 she must have entered through the kitchen.Carter was a student at Arizona State University. After being named "Most gifted" Carter made the decision to leave school and pursue the career of a musician. In the year 1970, Carter auditioned and then was on tour with The Garfin Gathering and bandleader Howard (Speedy) Garfin. Their first appearance with each other was held at the Holiday Inn Chinatown, a San Francisco hotel so new that there was no sidewalk entryway. They played mostly to hotel guests and hotel staff, who had their cars parked underground. The Garfin Gathering toured the Nevada "Silver Circuit" with shows at many of the state's casino lounges in between Lake Tahoe, Carson City, Reno, and Las Vegas. Carter was forced to leave the Garfin Gathering for acting, and returned home to Arizona in 1972.
